Abstract

The background of this case study is the high incidence of cancer based on Riskesdas data. The occurrence of cancer has increased from 1.4 per 1000 popuIation in 2013 to 1.79 per 1000 popuIation in 2018. The highest incidence among women in Indonesia is breast cancer, which is 42.1 per 100,000 popuIation, with an average mortality rate of 17 per 100,000 popuIation. Data from Al-Ihsan Hospital showed that breast cancer was the most prevalent disease in 2018, with a total of 606 cases (Al-Ihsan, 2018). The objective of this case study is to appIy nursing care to breast cancer patients who experience body image disturbances. Various disturbances can arise as a result of breast cancer, one of which is a disturbance in body image due to changes in body function/structure. Data collection for this case study was conducted through observation, interviews, physicaI examinations, and documentation studies. For the diagnosis of body image disturbance, interventions were carried out to change the patient's negative thoughts into positive ones, the patient's perception of their body becomes more positive and confident. Educating the patient about the importance of medical procedures and modifying their appearance can help the patient accept their condition. Involving the patient's close ones as a support system can also help the patient gain more confidence. The resuIts of the case study showed that after 5 days of nursing care, the patient was able to accept their body condition. lts recommended for nurses to invoIve the patient's close ones during the care process.
