Abstract

This case study was motivated by the increasing maternal mortality rate in Indonesia. Maternal mortality in Indonesia is still dominated by bleeding 1,280 cases, hypertension in pregnancy 1,066 cases, and infection 207 cases. Postpartum infections still play a role as a cause of maternal death in Indonesia, the infection includes all inflammation caused by the entry of bacteria into the genital organs during labor and postpartum. Mothers who experience an opening in the perineum will be at risk of infection in the wound. This case study aims to determine the description of nursing care for Mrs. N P1A0 with the risk of perineal wound infection in spontaneous postpartum mothers in the Aster Room of Bandung City Regional Public Hospital in 2023. The management carried out by the author is in accordance with the Indonesian Nursing Intervention Standards (SIKI), one of which is perineal wound care. This case study uses a descriptive case study method through interviews, observation and physical examination. The results of perineal wound care management carried out for 2 days in the hospital and 3 days of home visits found that wound healing was good, and no infection occurred in the perineal wound. Conclusion: Management of perineal wound care in spontaneous postpartum mothers can prevent infection in the perineal wound. It is recommended to the nursing profession to be able to perform perineal wound care actions and provide health promotion in increasing the knowledge of postpartum mothers.
