Abstract

The prevalence of elderly with DM in Indonesia increased in 2013 by 6% and in 2018 by 6.3%. Based on the results of health screening at Wisma Lansia J. Soenarti Nasution Bandung City, 4 elderly people were found to have Type II DM. One of the factors that influence DM is the DM diet. Interventions in elderly type 2 diabetes melitus with nutritional imbalances less than the body's needs can be done by monitoring nutritional intake every day, monitoring body weight every 2 days, providing education to the elderly and home managers regarding the DM diet related to a balanced food menu for elderly type 2 diabetes melitus. This case study method uses a descriptive case study method. The results of the case study showed a change in appetite slightly improved and a change in body weight from 50 Kg to 50.4 Kg with after the fifth day of implementation. Recommendations to the elderly and nursing home staff are expected to apply interventions regarding the DM diet, by monitoring nutritional intake every day, monitoring body weight every 2 days, educating and organizing a balanced DM diet menu for elderly type 2 diabetes melitus.
