Abstract
This research is motivated by the incidence of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) which continues to rank highest in Indonesia. One of the signs and symptoms of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is Paroxysmal Nocturnal Dyspnea (PND) or shortness of breath at night which is the most common, which may appear suddenly and cause the patient to wake up. Shortness of breath that is experienced causes Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) patients to be uncomfortable and disturbed to meet the need for sleep rest and will affect sleep quality. This study aims to determine the relationship between Paroxysmal Nocturnal Dyspnea (PND) and sleep quality in Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) patients at Al-Ihsan Hospital Bandung. This research method is descriptive correlation with cross sectional approach which is collected by using a questionnaire and purposive sampling technique. The total sample was 90 Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) patients at Al Ihsan Hospital in May 2023. From the results of the study, more than half experienced Paroxysmal Nocturnal Dyspnea (PND), which was 64 (71%) respondents. While the sleep quality of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) patients mostly had poor sleep quality, as many as 70 (78%) respondents with an average sleep quality score of 9. The results of the chi square statistical test obtained p value = 0.000 < 0.05) with an OR value = 69.7 which means patients who do not experience Paroxysmal Nocturnal Dyspnea (PND) 69.7 times tend to have better sleep quality than those who experience Paroxysmal Nocturnal Dyspnea (PND). So it can be concluded that there is a relationship between Paroxysmal Nocturnal Dyspnea (PND) and sleep quality in Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) patients. It is recommended that nurses can provide education in improving or improving the sleep quality of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) patients.
