Abstract

This case study is motivated by the high incidence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Indonesia which ranks 3rd with a prevalence of 11.3% in 2020. The prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in the city of Bandung reaches 2.1% or around 2,849 people. DM is one of the chronic diseases that affect sleep activity, because in DM patients the occurrence of nocturnal urine which causes sleep disturbances. This case study aims to describe nursing care with sleep pattern disturbances in RW 03, Dungus Cariang Village, Working Area of the Garuda Health Center, Bandung City. The method used is a descriptive case study. The results of the case study found that clients said they had difficulty sleeping, often woke up because they wanted to urinate, were often thirsty, eyes looked tired, eye bags enlarged, GDS examination results: 416 mg/dL, so the nursing diagnosis was sleep pattern disturbance. The interventions carried out were non-pharmacological therapies including progressive muscle relaxation techniques which were carried out every 2x a day for 15-30 minutes, and foot reflexology which was carried out every 2x a day for 20 minutes, and suggestions for reducing food or drink that disturbed sleep. This case study shows how complaints of difficulty sleeping decreased, complaints of frequent awakening decreased, sleep patterns increased with sleep frequency from 4 hours/day to 6-7 hours/day. Recommendations to clients and families are expected to be able to apply progressive muscle relaxation technique interventions and reflexology foot massages that are carried out independently, to health workers, especially health center program nurses to always monitor the health of the elderly and provide guidance to the community regarding Type 2 DM disease
