Abstract

Thalassemia is a chronic disease that generally occurs in school-age children and adolescents. Children with thalassemia will continue to undergo repeated, regular and routine blood transfusion therapy. This long and repeated treatment can cause several side effects on education, physical, and psychosocial. Psychosocially sufferers will experience such as fear of death, negative thoughts about the future, changes in self-image, there can also be a decrease in self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is divided into 3 aspects, namely strength, generalization and level. This study to describe self-efficacy in thalassemia children, both school age and adolescents. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative using a questionnaire. Sampling using technique accidental sampling. The number of samples obtained was 71 respondents with 54 respondents of school age childrens and 17 respondents of adolescents. Analysis using univariate analysis of frequency distribution with normality test kolmogorov-smirnov use the median as a cut off. School-age children 6-12 years have high self-efficacy as many as 29 peoples(52.7%) and have low self-efficacy as many as 25 peoples (46.3%), while children aged 13-18 years have high self-efficacy as many as 6 peoples (35.3%) and 11 peoples (64.7%) have low self-efficacy. The results of this study are hoped that there will be efforts to strengthen and support the pain experienced by children to increase self-efficacy, especially in adolescents.
