Abstract

Surgery is a way to cure diseases that cannot be treated with drugs. There are many types of psychological stress that patients face before surgery because each surgery has different stressors such as: Anxiety, fear or concern about the patient's perception of surgery. This stress causes poor sleep quality in patients before major surgery. The purpose of this study was to determine the picture of sleep quality of patients undergoing major surgery at Cibabat Cimahi Hospital. This Research design is a descriptive which is collected using a questionnaire PSQI and purposive sampling technique. The number of samples was 75 major preoperative patients at Cibabat Cimahi Hospital in May 2023. Almost all major preoperative patients at Cibabat Cimahi Hospital experienced poor sleep quality (84% or 63 people) With an average PSQI score of 8. The indicator of sleep quality that most affects the poor quality of sleep of patients before major surgery was sleep efficiency in 34 people (45%). Further research is expected to focus on studying sleep efficiency indicators to enhance the sleep quality of patients before undergoing major surgery.
