Abstract

Background : Peripheral circulation disorders, especially in the lower extremities, are pathological changes that can occur in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. One way to check peripheral circulation is by checking the Ankle Brachial Index. Buerger Allen Exercise is a physical activity that can improve peripheral circulation. Purpose: This case study aims to apply BAE to patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus so that peripheral circulation is smooth as indicated by ABI values in the normal range. Method: This case study uses descriptive analysis to describe the application of BAE in helping improve peripheral circulation in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients referring to Evidence Based Practice. ABI checks are carried out 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after BAE. BAE is carried out twice a day at (07.00 - 09.00 WIB) and (15.00 - 17.00 WIB). The duration of each exercise is ± 30 minutes. Results: BAE has been applied to 2 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus for 5 days 2x/day. ABI results for the 1st patient was previously 1,34. After 5 days of implementation, the ABI value became 1,28. The ABI result for the second patient was previously 0,8. After 5 days of implementation, the ABI value became 0,91. Conclusion: BAE is effective and can help improve peripheral circulation as indicated by ABI values in the normal range (0,9 – 1,3). Suggestions: BAE can be applied as a complementary therapy to improve peripheral circulation.
