Abstract

Background: Pulmonary TB is an infectious disease that can cause a decrease in oxygen saturation and can be increased with pursed lip breathing. Objective: To provide an overview of the results of applying pursed lip breathing to increase oxygen saturation in pulmonary TB patients. Method: Descriptive approach by carrying out specific interventions referring to evidence-based practice (EBP) carried out on 2 patients with pulmonary TB, aged >18 years, decreased oxygen saturation <95%, and received bronchodilator/expectorant/mucolotic therapy. Results: Oxygen saturation before pursed lip breathing in Mr. N ranges between 90-99% while Mrs. A 93–99%, and after pursed lip breathing for 5 days with 2 exercises in one day, the oxygen saturation of Mr. N ranged between 94–99% while Mrs. A 95–99%. Conclusion: Implementing pursed lip breathing can increase oxygen saturation in pulmonary TB patients. Recommendation: Hospitals can implement pursed lip breathing interventions to help increase oxygen saturation in pulmonary tuberculosis patients.
