Abstract
memiliki arah hubungan positif.
Children's health will affect their daily lives. One of the causes of disruption in children's health is the hereditary hemolytic disease, thalassemia. In West Java, 34.3% of children suffered from thalassemia in 2019. This study aims to analyze the relationship between iron chelation drug consumption and the quality of life of children with thalassemia. Thalassemia patients require repeated blood transfusion for life, causing a buildup of iron levels in the body which causes children to get complications. Iron chelation are the only therapy given to overcome excess iron buildup which can affect their quality of life. Researchers
used a cross sectional research design with a total sampling. The sample was 57
people. The instruments used in this study were the MMAS-8 questionnaire and the
Peds-QL questionnaire which were analyzed using the Chi Square test. The statistial results showed that there was a significant relationship with a strong level of relationship between the consumption of iron chelation drugs and the quality of life of thalassemia children (p value = 0.00 <0.05) and had a positive relationship direction. Recommendations that can be made are providing education by health workers to maintain therapy compliance and family support so that children are compliant in consuming iron chelation therapy to improve their quality of life. In
addition, next researchers can analyze demographic factors, children's clinical conditions, parental characteristics, and assessment of the physical appearance of thalassemia children associated with adherence to iron chelation therapy and their quality of life
