Abstract

The high rate of poor sleep quality in adolescents in Indonesia 2019 which reached 63%, makes this very important to be considered by adolescent basketball athlete because poor sleep quality can affect mood negatively, which when this happens can make the athlete's performance on the field decrease so that can’t achieve his best performance. This study aims to determine the relationship between sleep quality and mood in adolescent basketball athletes at the Mercusuar DCSK Club. The research design used cross sectional with purposive sampling technique. The population was 210 people and the sample as many as 152 people. The measuring instruments used were the PSQI and BRUMS questionnaires. The data obtained were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between sleep quality and mood with a P Value of 0,028 (<0,05). It can be concluded that poor sleep quality can negatively affect the mood of adolescent basketball athletes. Further research is needed regarding interventions to overcome poor sleep quality and negative mood such as non-pharmacological therapy : Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT).
