Abstract
This case study is motivated by the high number of incidence of pleural effusion in Indonesia, the prevalence of pleural effusion in Indonesia are 2.7% or around 1.39 million people. Based on the results of a preliminary study conducted at Al-Ihsan Hospital, there were 273 patients with pleural effusion in the period of 2019-2020. This case study aims to apply nursing care to patients with pleural effusion with impaired oxygenation needs. Pleural effusion is a condition when the pleural cavity is filled with, with the presence of more than normal fluid will interfere with lung expansion, this can cause interference in the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the lungs, which can cause oxygenation disorders. This case study uses a descriptive design with a sample size of 1 patient conducted at Al-Ihsan Hospital. Nursing care was carried out for 5 days, at the assessment 3 diagnoses were found, one of which was ineffective breathing patterns. Especially for diagnoses of ineffective breathing patterns, the intervention is to collaborate / continue oxygen therapy as needed. After 5 days of nursing care, the problem was resolved. In conclusion, the focus of the intervention carried out is the provision of oxygen with a Non Rebreathing Mask (NRM) which is adjusted to the patient's needs of 8 liters, and after giving oxygen for 1 hour, oxygen saturation is measured and the results obtained on the first day of the patient's oxygen saturation are 90% and on the third day it increases to 98%. For patients and families, it is hoped that measuring oxygen saturation can always be applied by patients and families as an independent effort to determine the general condition of the patient. Keywords: Efusi Pleura, impaired oxygenation needs, ineffective breathing pattern
