Abstract
This case study is motivated by the large number of incidents of laparotomy operations in Indonesia. Laparotomy is one of the major surgical procedures, by making incisions in the layers of the abdominal wall to examine the abdominal organs and help diagnose problems including healing in the parts of the abdomen that are experiencing problems (hemorrhage, perforation, cancer, and obstruction). Any surgery can cause discomfort and trauma to the patient. One of the most common complaints of patients is pain. Pain is a major problem in postoperative care where pain is a defense mechanism of the body that arises when there is tissue damage and causes the individual to react by moving the pain stimulus. The purpose of this case study is to reduce the pain scale of post-op laparotomy patients with deep breathing relaxation techniques. The case study was conducted in the Said bin Zaid room of Al-Ihsan Hospital, starting from 11 to 15 April 2023. The case study used a descriptive case study design. The subjects used were patients with cholelithiasis who were operated on by laparotomy with acute pain disorder. Methods of data collection through observation, interviews, physical examination and documentation, with a nursing care approach from assessment to evaluation. The management of acute pain disorder in post op laparotomy patients is deep breathing relaxation. The results of applying deep breathing relaxation carried out for 5 consecutive days showed that there was a decrease in pain in post-laparotomy patients with a scale of 7 (1-10) to a scale of 1 (1-10). Conclusion: Deep breathing relaxation in postoperative laparotomy patients can reduce the pain scale. For families who have postoperative laparotomy patients, it is hoped that they can apply deep breathing relaxation as an effort that can be made to reduce the scale of pain in postoperative laparotomy patients.
