Abstract

This case study is motivated by the high incidence of DM in the world, which is 563 million people. In Indonesia, the number of people with DM is 10.7 million, and in West Java, an estimated 570,611 people have diabetes. The prevalence of diabetic ulcers in Indonesia is around 15%, the amputation rate is 30%, the mortality rate is 32%, and diabetic ulcers are the most common cause of hospitalization for diabetes melitus at 80%. This case study aims to apply nursing care to patients with type II diabetes melitus with diabetic ulcers to meet the need for security. In patients with diabetes melitus with ulcers, a sense of security can be disturbed due to increased blood sugar levels, which reduce skin sensitivity and can cause wounds. One of the interventions in meeting the need for security is wound care to help the healing process and prevent amputation. This case study method is descriptive. The case study was conducted at Bandung City Hospital for five days. The results of the case study showed that the wound had improved. This case study concludes that there is an increase in wound healing in patients. It is expected that patients and nurses can apply wound care interventions to fulfill the need for security in patients with diabetic ulcers.
