Abstract

The highest cause of neonatal mortality is caused by intrapartum complications, due to respiratory distress, LBW, and infection. Newborns require special attention, especially in the birth of mothers with primiparous postpartum. The mother's ability to perform newborn care is influenced by knowledge, if the mother does not have good knowledge, the mother will have difficulty in carrying out her role as a mother. The success of newborn care for post partum mothers is very important for the support of health workers. The purpose of this case study is to help and support primiparous postpartum mothers in caring for newborns. The case study method used is a descriptive case study with a case study design that includes a comprehensive assessment of a single unit, namely one client with data collection methods through observation, interviews, and physical examination. The results of this case study obtained an increase in knowledge and skills in Mrs. D in performing care for newborns, namely bathing babies and caring for umbilical cords. It can be concluded that comprehensive nursing care regarding assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation is expected in mothers with primipara to take care of newborns properly and correctly, and is expected to increase the breadth of knowledge, especially nursing in carrying out nursing care.
