Abstract

The World Health Organization states that mental well-being is a crucial aspect of overall health on a global scale, with 300 million individuals across the world experiencing mental health issues, such as bipolar disorder, depression, dementia, and schizophrenia. As of 2022, the West Java Provincial Mental Hospital has reported 56 cases of chronic low self-esteem. This condition involves a negative self-image, in which the individual feels worthless, insignificant, and helpless, leading to a lack of recognition from others and exposure to traumatic situations. Consequently, patients may become isolated and hesitant to interact with others. This case study aims to provide nursing care to patients with chronic low self-esteem, using techniques such as interviews, physical examinations, observations, and documentation to gather data. The results of this study indicate that patients with chronic low self-esteem display symptoms such as negative self-assessment, feelings of inadequacy, and low self-esteem. After receiving comprehensive nursing care, patients can develop a positive self-image and perform their abilities. However, discovering and developing the patient's positive aspects takes time, and it is recommended that families and patients cooperate with nursing care while nurses improve their therapeutic communication skills.
