Abstract

ABSTRACT This case study is motivated by the increased incidence of anxiety in Indonesia, from 6% in 2013 to 9.8% in 2018, particularly among elderly patients with hypertension. The number of hypertension cases in the Garuda Primary Health Care Area has increased in the past three months, including 107 elderly individuals with hypertension. Hypertension can cause anxiety due to the impact of complications, which lowers the patient's quality of life and increases the risk of death due to hypertension-related complications. These complications can affect emotions and trigger anxiety. This case study utilizes a descriptive design with a nursing care approach for an elderly patient with hypertension, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, nursing planning, and nursing evaluation. The results of the case study show that a 71 year old elderly patient with hypertension experienced moderate anxiety. After implementing techniques such as deep breathing relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation for five days, the level of anxiety decreased from moderate to mild. The case study recommends that healthcare services in posbindu activities should be maintained to ensure that the elderly maintain regular blood pressure control.
