Abstract

Type 2 DM is a chronic disease, characterized by impaired pancreatic beta cell function or poor blood sugar control. Type 2 DM causes many complications, one of which is diabetic neuropathy. Diabetic neuropathy is focal or diffuse nerve damage due to excessive blood sugar levels. One way to improve blood sugar control is through physical activity. This study aims to determine the relationship between physical activity and the incidence of diabetic neuropathy in patients with type 2 DM. This research is a correlational analytic study with a cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with a total sample of 124 respondents. Data was collected using IPAQ (International Physical Activity Questionnaire) and MNSI (Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument) questionnaires. The data analysis used was univariate and bivariate analysis (chi square test). The results of this study showed that most of the respondents had light physical activity, and most of the respondents had diabetic neuropathy. It was concluded that there was a relationship between physical activity and the incidence of diabetic neuropathy in Type 2 DM patients, with a p value of 0.000 (a <0.05).Suggestions for Type 2 DM sufferers, both those who have neuropathy and those who do not, are expected to carry out regular physical activity in order to prevent or slow down the occurrence of diabetic neuropathy
