Abstract

In 2022 there were 226 cases of bullying with physical and verbal violence that occurred in the school environment, including 18 cases of bullying in cyberspace. Adverse effects that can occur in adolescents who are victims of bullying include anxiety, feeling lonely, and low self-esteem. Self-esteem is a personal assessment of the results achieved and analyzes how far the behavior meets self-ideal. The research objective was to determine the relationship between verbal bullying behavior and adolescent self-esteem at SMPN 40 Bandung City. Correlation research design with a cross sectional approach. The sample uses simple random sampling technique. The research population was 287 with a total sample of 168 respondents. The measurement tools used are the Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Data analysis using spearman rank. The results showed that verbal bullying behavior at SMPN 40 Kota Bandung was in the high category as many as 80 people and in the low category as many as 88 people, high self-esteem as many as 56 people and low self-esteem as many as 112 people and there was a significant relationship between verbal bullying behavior and self-esteem adolescents, with a p value of 0.001. In conclusion, there is a relationship between verbal bullying behavior and teenanger self-esteem at SMPN 40 Bandung City. It is recommended that the roots program be carried out and assistance to reduce the incidence of bullying and further research related to strategies for coping mechanisms for victims of bullying.
