Abstract

Hypertension is often dubbed as a silent killer, meaning something that can secretly cause sudden death for sufferers. Hypertension is influenced by psychological factors that is stress. Stress is an important factor that affects a quality of life of a person. This research aims to determine that correlation between stress and quality of life in hypertensive patiens at garuda primary health center of bandung city. This research is a quantitative study with an analytic design with a cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used the accidental sampling method with 45 respondents. Data collected by using Cohen’s Perceived Stress Scale Questionnaire and The World Heatlh Organization Quality of Life. Univariate analysis data consists of the characteristics of the respondents, stress, quality of life in the frequency distribution tables. Bivariate analysis with rank Spearman to examine the correlation between the two variables. The research results obtained a significant value = 0.01. Significant value < α (0.05), then H0 is rejected. It can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between stress and quality of life in hypertensive patients at the Garuda Primary Health Center of Bandung City. Based on this research, nurses at primary health care are recommended to be able have stress measuring instrument, assessment stress reguraly, and provide interventions in dealing with stress. hypertension patients are to recommended to control stress in order to improve quality of life.
