Abstract

The prevalence of heart failure in Indonesia based on a doctor's diagnosis is 1.5% or 1,017,290 residents. Most deaths that were previously caused by infectious diseases are now shifting to cardiovascular and degenerative diseases which are predicted to be 5 times more causes of death compared to infectious diseases. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self care and quality of life in CHF patients. Heart failure is a medical emergency of the amount of blood pumped by the human heart in every minute (cardiac output) cannot meet the body's normal metabolic needs, this causes a decrease in body function which affects the patient's self care in his life, bad self care treatment causes a decrease in quality of life which is the level that describes the superiority of an individual's life. The research design uses descriptive correlational. The sample collection technique used purposive sampling, sample obtained was 90 respondents. The measuring tool uses the Minnesota living with heart failure questionnaire and the Self care heart failure index. Chi Square method of data analysis was carried out. The results of this research show that there is a relationship between self care and quality of life with a number of p value 0.00. The need for good self-care behavior in an effort to improve the quality of life is important for CHF patients and the need for skill development for health workers, especially nurses regarding health education for CHF sufferers in implementing good self-care in everyday life.
