Abstract

Stroke is a disease that can cause disability and death. The highest prevalence of stroke in Indonesia is in West Java province at 11.4% or around 131,846 cases. Treatment that is highly recommended for stroke is less than three hours (golden period) after the stroke. The problem that occurs in Indonesia is that there are still many stroke patients who arrive late. Family attitudes and distance of residence can affect late arrival at the hospital. This study aims to determine the relationship between family attitudes and distance of residence with delays in the arrival time of stroke patients to the hospital. The method used is correlational analytics with a cross-sectional design. A total of 50 respondents who met the inclusion criteria participated in this study through purposive sampling techniques. The results showed that most (68%) respondents had a bad attitude, most (68%) had a distance of residence > 10 km, and most (68%) were late (> 3 hours) in taking stroke patients to the hospital. It can be concluded that family attitudes and distance of residence are associated with a delay in the arrival time of stroke patients to the emergency room of Al Ihsan Hospital (P = 0.012), with a low relationship (0.357). In this regard, efforts are needed to improve family attitudes in responding quickly through increased education related to the dangers of delays in stroke treatment, and the need for hospitals to provide hotline services as an Early Warning System.
