Abstract
West Java Province has the highest level of disaster vulnerability in Indonesia, which is dominated by landslides, floods and fires. The group that is most vulnerable to disasters is children. Elementary school student spendsan average of 7 hours in school. So,the school can be categorized as a disaster-prone place. Disasters can occur at any time, including when students are in school. School children must have resilience in facing the threat of disaster. School Watching is one method that can assist students in improving disaster preparedness through activities carried out in schools and the surrounding environment. This study aims to determine the effect of the school watching method on the preparedness of elementary school students in dealing with disasters in Cicendo District, Bandung City. The research design used a quasi-experimental approach with a Pre-Posttestcontrol group design approach. The sample of this study was fifth grade elementary school students in Cicendo District. The sample size is 39people for the intervention group and 39 people for the control group. The sampling technique is proportional random sampling. The intervention was given in 5 meetings. Intervention activities include: providing materials on disaster, observations, mapping, discussions and presentations. Analysis of the data used for the paired group using a statistical test T test dependent because the data is normally distributed. Meanwhile, for the unpaired group, the Mann-Whitney test was used because the data were notnormally distributed. The results showed that there was an effect of the school watching method on the preparedness of elementary school students in dealing with disasters because the p value was 0.000. Therefore, it is suggested to the person in charge of the school health program to apply the school watching method to reduce disaster risk in the school community.Key words: school watching, disaster preparedness, elementary school students, DisasterABSTRAKProvinsi Jawa Barat memilikitingkat kerawananbencanapaling tinggi di Indonesiayang di dominasi oleh kejadian tanah longsor, banjir dan kebakaran. Kelompok yang sangat rentan terhadap bencana adalah anak-anak. Anak-anak sekolah dasar rata-rata menghabiskan waktu 7 jam di sekolah. Sehinggasekolah dapat dikategorikan sebagai tempat yang rawan bencana. Bencana dapat terjadi setiap saat termasuk pada saat anakdi sekolah. Anak sekolah harus memiliki ketangguhan dalam menghadapi ancaman bencana. School Watching merupakan salah satu metode yangdapat JURNAL RISET KESEHATANPOLTEKKES DEPKES BANDUNGVol 14 No 2, Oktober 2022271https://doi.org/10.34011/juriskesbdg.v14i2.2042membantu peserta didik dalam meningkatkan kesiapsiagaan bencana melalui kegiatan yang dilakukan di sekolah dan lingkungan sekitarnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruhmetode school watchingterhadap kesiapsiagaan siswa SD dalam menghadapi bencana di Kecamatan Cicendo Kota Bandung. Desain penelitian menggunakan quasi experimentdengan pendekatanPre Post test control group design. Sampel Penelitian ini siswa kelas V SD di Kecamatan Cicendo. Besar sampel berjumlah 39 orang untuk kelompok intervensi dan 39 orang untuk kelompok kontrol. Teknik pengambilan sampel dengan cara proportional Random sampling. Intervensi diberikan dalam 5kali pertemuan.Kegiatan intervensi meliputi: pemberian materi tentang kebencanaan, pengamatan, pemetaan, diskusi dan presentasi. Analisis data yang digunakan untuk kelompok berpasangan menggunakan uji statistik T test dependentkarena data berdistribusi normal. Sedangkan untuk kelompok tidak berpasangan menggunakan uji Mann-Whitney karena data berdistribusi tidak normal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh metode school watchingterhadap kesiapsiagaan siswa SD dalam menghadapi bencana karena didapatkan p value 0,000. Oleh karena itu disarankan kepada penanggung jawab program kesehatan sekolah untuk menerapkan metode school watchinguntuk mengurangi resiko bencana di komunitas sekolah.
