Abstract

Black Soldier Fly (BSF) or Hermetia illucens is a type of non-disease vector. BSF life span is about 7 with female BSF will p duce 500-900 eggs then the eggs hatch into larvae or maggots. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial effectiveness, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and minimum killing concentration (MBC) of BSF maggot extract against Escherichia coli. The examination used Kirby Bauer diffusion method, while for the determination of MIC and MBC using the total plate number. Variations in the concentration of maggot extract used were 0.12%; 0.24%; 0.36%; 0.48%; 0.60%; 0.72%; 0.84%; 0.96%; 1.08%; and 1.20%, while the concentration of the ethanol was 5%; 7.5%; 10%; 12.5%; 15%; 17.5%; 20%; 22.5%; and 25%; as a control used ciprofloxacin 30 g. The results showed that the ethanol extract of maggot effective as an antibacterial against Escherichia coli, with p= 0.002 < (0.050). Meanwhile, the ManMann-Whitneyst analysis showed p= 0.317 (> 0.050%), for a concentration of 1.08% and 1.20%. Maggot ethanol extract was effective as an antibacterial against Escherichia coli, with p= 0.000 < (0.050). The concentration of minimal inhibitory (MIC) extract of Maggot of BSF which was effective as an antibacterial against Escherichia coli was 0.60% with a colony number of 24.27 ± 2.137 CFU/mL. The number of colonies are greatest decrease compared to the number of colonies in other concentration treatments . inimal Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) was present at concentration of 0.96% with a colony count of 0.0 CFU/mL. Keywords: Maggot, Black Soldier Fly, antibacterial, MIC,MBC, E. coli
