Abstract

Pain due to uterine contractions results in an increase in the sympathetic nervous system, changes in blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory system. Pain can also increase worry, tension, fear and stress resulting in inhibition of labor progress. Labor pain can be treated using complementary therapies with aromatherapy techniques. Lavender aromatherapy can affect the limbic system in the brain which is the center of emotions, and is able to produce endorphins and encephaline which have pain - relieving properties and serotonin that have the effect of relieving anxiety and tension. Lavender aromatherapy has anticonvulsant, antidepressant, anxiolytic, and sooth ing properties at the time of delivery. Evidence Based Case Report (EBCR) aims to find out the provision of lave nder aromatherapy to labor pain in the VK room of Hasan Sadikin Hospital Bandung. Search articles on aromatherapy comparisons was conducted at Pubmed, Cochrane and Garuda Portal. Obtained 2 quasi - experimental articles by Witama Juliani, et al and Hilda Yani, et al. that fit the criteria of inclusion and exclusion and have been filtered before, then critically reviewed. After a critical review of both articles is declared important and can be applied to patients. Lavender aromatherapy is given to the mother at the time of labor . Measurement of pain intensity was carried out before and after the administration of lavender aromatherapy using numeric ratting scale (NRS), obtained results that there was a decrease in pain score before given lavender aromatherapy with a value of 5 (moderate pain) and after being given lavender aromatherapy obtained a value of 3 (mild pain). Giving lavender aromatherapy t o labor pain can effectively reduce labor pain. Key word s : Aromatheraphy, Labor pain, Lavender
