Abstract

This case study is motivated by an increase in the elderly population in Indonesia of 10.48% (Sunses, 2022). The elderly experience various changes physically, mentally, cognitively, socially and economically due to the aging process. It is reported that the incidence of rheumatoid arthritis sufferers worldwide reaches 355 million people (WHO, 2016). In West Java Province, cases of rheumatoid arthritis reached 32.1% with the prevalence of rheumatoid arthritis according to age classification, amounting to 45% in the 55-64 year classification and 51.9% in the 65-74 classification (Riskesdas, 2018). This case study aims to carry out gerontic nursing care with impaired physical mobility due to rheumatoid arthritis at Wisma Lansia J. Soenarti, Bandung City. The case study method used is a descriptive case study with a nursing care approach to an elderly who has impaired physical mobility due to rheumatoid arthritis. The results of the case study showed that after intervention in the elderly with rheumatoid arthritis for 6 days there was an increase in muscle strength, an increase in Range Of Motion (ROM) exercises and a decrease in pain. It is recommended for the elderly, especially for rheumatoid arthritis sufferers, to increase ambulation with routine Range Of Motion (ROM) exercises, the management of the elderly homestead can continue taking action to reduce symptoms or complications
