Abstract

HIV is a virus that attacks the human immune system, HIV can lead to AIDS which is a collection of symptoms of decreased immunity. The number of people living with HIV/AIDS continues to increase, and most sufferers are young adults. As many as 18% of new HIV sufferers are infected because of free sex, 17% because of the behavior of men who like men, and 12% are infected because of injecting drugs. Self-perception and self-esteem are psychosocial factors that can influence behavior. This study aims to determine the correlation between self-perception and self-esteem with the incidence of HIV/AIDS in young adults. Researchers used a cross-sectional design. The number of samples in this study was 52 respondents. The measurement tools used are the Wellness Self-Perceptions Scale (WSPS) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Data analysis using the Chi-Square method and Logistic Regression. The results of the study found that there was a significant correlation between self-perception and self-esteem with the incidence of HIV/AIDS with a p-value of 0.000. Efforts are needed to increase self-perception and self-esteem with therapeutic communication with family and people around their environment and intervention of low self�esteem nursing interventions and further research using other factors such as gender, occupation, and recent education.
