Abstract

The Composting process is sometimes constrained due to aesthetic disturbances when doing the chopping and turning of the waste. There is an odor that starts to appear due to the decay process or the emergence of other waste-decomposing organisms. Self Turning Composter (STC) is a 3-layer compost reactor with the dimensions of 1 and 2 pxlxt = 40x40x30 cm reactor, while reactor 3 is a chopper as well as a turnover of waste. This TC is made of tripblocks and a steel plate as the base for each part. This Self Turning Composter will mix the waste, give it oxygen, turn the waste upside down as well as chop the waste into smaller pieces. The researcher aims to determine the quality and effectiveness of compost using STC with variations of waste turning.This study used an experimental method with a one-group design with only post-treatment measurements (One group posttest-only design). The results showed that once the waste reversal on the first day of composting and routine air injection every day, the mean value of Seed Germination was 85%. Reversal of waste every day, the mean value of Seed Germination is 91.6%, while the reversal of every 3 days the mean value of Seed Germination is 85%. Value of Seed Germination (SG) compost with Self Turning Composter (STC) tool in all treatments is> 80%, meaning that the compost is ripe and is not toxic (%). There is no difference in the quality of compost for the Seed Germination value from various frequencies of reversal with the STC tool. Inversion of compost with the STC tool once during enumeration but equipped with an aerated static pile is the most effective because the composting time is the fastest, yields a Seed Germination value> 80%, and a The CN ratio is close to the ideal value of compost SNI.
