Abstract

This research is motivated by changeshealth issuesfrom communicable diseases to non-communicable diseasesin Indonesia, one of which is hypertension.Hypertension couldlead complications if prevention wasnot carried out, one of which is stroke. Therefore, it wasvery important to know the level of knowledge of hypertensive patients on preventing complications, because knowledge was one of the factors for preventing complications. This study aimedto describe knowledge of hypertensive patients about preventing complications in the internal medicine polyclinic at Al Islam Hospital. The research design used descriptivemethod. Population taken from primary hypertension patients at Al Islam Hospital. The number of samples taken was 48 people with consecutive sampling technique using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis with frequency distribution. The results showed that out of 48 respondents, 42 (87.5%) had good knowledge, 6 (12.5%) had sufficient knowledge and no one (0%) had poor knowledge about preventing hypertension complications. It wasnecessary to increase health promotion regarding the prevention of complications of hypertension, sothe level of knowledge of primary hypertension patients undergoing treatment at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic at Al Islam Hospital increases.Keywords: knowledge, hypertension, complication
